Houston

Houston
Outside the Entrance

Lulu checking them out

Lulu

Kaycee and I drove to Houston so I could get my visa for India. We left fairly early, because it was going to be about a 4 hour drive. I could have mailed it in, but the time schedule was making me nervous and I wanted it in my little hand before we went to NYC. The kids were remarkably good. We plugged in the portable DVD player and off we went. We made it just in time to drop off the visa application (I forgot to get a picture.. drat) and had about 3 hours to kill before I had to be back to pick it up. Luckily my friend Carrie lived in Houston so she had lots of suggestions for things we could do. The only problem- we went on a Monday and all the museums are closed.. except the Natural History Museum. We saw signs on the drive advertising an exhibit dedicated to Benjamin Franklin. However, by the time we got there we totally forgot about it and bought tickets for the butterfly exhibit. We did this for 2 reasons:
1. The kids could walk around.. no strollers. Dangerous, but we were willing to take the risk
2. It was smallest of the four and we were in a time crunch.

I am so glad- it was absolutely amazing. The best part.. they had an exhibit with butterflies that were either in the coccon and some that were just hatching or had just hatched. These were from all over the world.. including India. They had these amazing colors. Absolutely gorgeous. The butterflies would come right up to you and almost land on you, but never quite make it. Lulu kept tormenting one butterfly while I wasn't paying attention (I was trying to get a picture). It was BARELY hanging on when I caught her in the act. I made her apologize. I know.. a little crazy, but it was totally mean!

We made it back to pick up the visa with any problems and we were off. We weren't reminded of Ben Franklin until we were back on the freeway and we both made an audible "oh yeah" as we saw the sign. It was a little crazy trip, but it all worked out. Many thanks to Kaycee for being a trooper. She is really a great friend. She is always up for an adventure like me.

Sounds like a fun little trip. Quick getaways with a friends are always fun in my book! I had no idea you had to go all the way to Houston to get a Visa. Whats up with that? YOu would think you could get one in Dallas. We too have a fun butterfly exhibit at our zoo. I have heard amazing things about it.

Holy cow, you're leaving sooner than I thought! How exciting. You're lucky you only had to go to Houston, we have to go all the way to San Francisco to get visas here.

We went to a butterfly exhibit in Seattle years ago and it was one of the most fun things I've ever been to. Glad you took your camera! Cracking up over Lulu having to apologize to a butterfly...
