Lulu's Big Day

School

Art Project
Lulu started her little school this week. She goes a couple days of week for a couple of hours. Her little friend Maren is also in the class. The first day she came home all excited about the fact that she was able to paint in class. We never paint at home, because I'm afraid of the mess. After seeing how giddy she was, we need to start painting at home.
Exciting News

A family in our ward moved into a new house and decided to have a giant estate sale. By Sunday it became a free for all. Unfortunately Adam didn't tell me until about 2 hours after it started. I had seen these chairs a couple of days before and was lamenting how much I wanted them, but knew they would be gone. The following Tuesday night they had a RS activity and I was talking to the woman about her estate sale and told her how much I wanted the chairs that were for sale, but didn't make it over to the estate sale. She told me that I was in luck and she had them in the back of her car and I could have 4 of them. She said they would need to be repaired and gave me a couple of local places that could do it for me. They have so much potential. If anyone knows anything about how to reupholster furniture.. let me know. As you can see 2 are in okay shape, but 2 are in a bit of disaray.
Good Mail Galore
Even though I owe a ton of thank you notes (seriously coming, but I don't want to send store bought and just haven't had time to sit down and create my own), I received several fabulous packages this week.

Michelle sent an adorable photo album and cute little mini cards with a sweet note. Thanks!!

Cute Pam sent this darling journal with an L stamped on each page.. LOVE IT. She also sent some fun stamps for my little upcoming trip and a package of Razzles. Which if I'm not mistaken is the same candy in 13 going on 30. Such a sweet gift from someone I have never met. Thank you for thinking of me.

Jill crafted me some good mail labels. I'm embarrassed that I have been very negligent in the good mail department of late. Very inspiring!

Amy W. sent me this little package filled with all kinds of goodies. These fun items are just for me. I'm so excited to read the book. I love books about cooking. Have you read Homecooking?

She also sent us this little package of fun treats for Lulu and I to do together. So Lulu has been carrying around the little scottie dogs in a plastic bag all week. She refuses to leave the house without them.

Lulu holding onto her little goodies for dear life.

I love that picture of Lulu holding all of her goodies! I bet Kristi will have an idea about the chairs for you!
How many more days of work???
Sounds like an exciting week, with lots-o-fun new things. With regards to the Ruth Reichl book - I think your friend sent you Garlic & Sapphires (fun read) - Reichl also wrote two memoirs which are really great reads: the first, Tender at the Bone and a continuation, Comfort Me with Apples. Ruth Reichl is currently the editor of Gourmet magazine, and was previously a food editor/writer at LA Times before moving over to NY Times restaurant critic fame (and basis of Garlic & Sapphires). I might still have these two novels - I'll check when I unpack storage boxes.
I forgot this: COULD YOUR DAUGHTER BE ANYMORE ADORABLE?!?!?!
Lars- I'm glad that you had a great week. I love the pictures of Lulu. I can't believe how much she has grown in the last few months. We can hardly wait for you to come!! Jake and I are literally counting down the days. We definitely need to go to the new children's museum while you are here. It looks wonderful. I think Lu will love it!

BUSY at work! Ha ha!
I've been wondering where you were, I'm glad you're well and just busy. When is your last day of work?
That's quite the haul of good mail, I love to see what everyone gets, you got a lot of fun stuff.
Those chairs are very cool, I can't wait to see what you end up doing with them.
Fun estate finds, fun mail, glad you are back with us all. Sounds like you have been quite a busy gal!
I took the quiz and I am summer.
thanks for breaking it down for me.
fun fun packages.
and yes tasha is right i do have an idea for you. but first i must say those chairs are amazing! i am in serious covet mode.
you could do one of two things you could get the seat rewoven (this has a cool name for it but can not remember it) and if you have the money to do so, that is what I would do. it can be pricey but really ask around and find a deal. I think the woven seat makes it.
If you do add a cushion seat you probably just need a piece of ply wood. I would use a high density foam, don't go cheap, i did that my kitchen cushions and i am sad i did.
Amy w. would be another good one to ask.
I can't wait to meet that Lulu. Yes, how many more days of work? And, love the chairs. I also came up as summer, but I don't know if I agree with it. You know that Sting song, "All Four Seasons in One Day" ? I think that better describes me!! Ha!
I love those chairs, what a great find. I must find some estate sales to go to. Can't wait to see what you decide to do with them.
I love all the good mail that you got, what fun.
I also like the books, "Like water for Chocolate" and "Fried Green Tomatoes", not only for the stories but also for the recipes that are included in the book. Have you seen the movie, "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman". It's a chinese film and centers around the family and the dad's cooking but so much more than just cooking, it's the preparation and presentation. A beautiful film.
LOVED the pics of Lulu holding the stash! So glad you/she liked the package. As for the chairs, I'll pretty much second Kristi. I'm going to warn you, it will be bucks to get them rewoven, but if the actual chairs are in good condition, it might be worth it. If you decided to upholster them, that would be quite easy and cheap. Use plywood (cut to shape), foam, material and staple gun--then viola! Cute, Cute!
wow nice load. Don't you just love the good mail phenomenon? I do.
You daughter is so cute. She really is mini you.
i meant to add also i've changed my web site to afmwords.blogspot.com just so you know.
That is really great mail! How fun to have it all pour in at once.
The chairs are really cute, I can't wait to see what you do with them. I have never tried the upholstering thing...
LOVE the chairs. How fortunate that you still managed to get 4 of them! I agree that re-caning them would be ideal, but possibly pretty expensive. I have upholstered seats and it is a piece of cake, if you need to go that route.
I haven't read any of the Ruth Reichl books -- they sound intriguing. Have you finished work yet?
Oh, I forgot to say I LOVE David Sedaris!
