Craft Night Girl

I was really lucky to meet these amazing women when we lived in NOLA. We became known as the Craft Night Girls (Susie is missing, because I don't have a picture w/all of us in a digital format. Can someone email me one of the gazillion pictures out there.. I'll send the futton photo). We were all in very different stages of our lives, but we fit perfectly together. It has been a very long 8 years, but we have seen each other through break ups, weddings, babies, hurricanes, grad school, trips to NYC with me--ahhh, and the best part- we live all over the US and have made an effort to get together every year as well as for major life points.

The point of this blog is to tell you about Marcelle (first girl on the left). She is one of the most intellectual people I know. She knows a ridiculous amount of information and makes any trip very educational. Last year we all went to CA to see her graduate from grad school. It was great, because we try and take a yearly trip together, but with school and other commitments we haven't had the whole group together since we were all in Atlanta in 2002. She wouldn't settle on just regular CA outings. We went to a giant arboretum, the city museum, and we went to the Gamble House. It is this AMAZING house that was built for the Gamble family by the founders of the Arts and Crafts Movement- the Greene brothers. We went to a showing of Some Like It Hot in a cemetery. Yeah- that is what I said.. a cemetery. They have this giant grass area that they use and they set up a big movie screen- and the money contributed goes to maintaing the cemetery. It sounds kind of disrespectful, but it really wasn't. Everyone was very respectful and I was amazed at how cool it was. Everwhere we went she knew something about the history, architecture, or just general knowledge about the city and the buildings. We had a great time and I learned soo much.

The thing about Marcelle is that she is always sending me cool articles, recipes, or just things that she thinks I would find interesting. I love getting mail from her, because I know it will be a thought provoking piece or even just a sweet handwritten note. She makes me want to be more thoughful about the people in my life, in terms of really getting to know them. She is going to be completely horrified I did this, but I just wanted to tell you what a truly amazing girl she is!

I just want to thank this wonderful group of women for turning my non-domestic or craft daughter on to the wonderful world of being creative. I have enjoyed some the fun items. I am also greatful to these cute girls for taking care of our Lara while she is away and helping her to enjoy life to its fullest.

What a wonderful tribute to your friend. I think it's great that you all get together now that you don't live near each other. I always plan to do that with distant friends, but it so rarely happens.

What a great woman, I love how woman in different circles and stages in life can join in a common interest and form life-long friendships. Husbands are awesome, and will last eternally, but I always say that my girlfriends will help me out along the way there.

Great post about your friends. I love that you all make the effort to get together even though that means flying somewhere. That's most impressive. I think friends are so important and make a huge difference in my life. I think maintaining relationships and taking care of each other is crucial. This was an inspiring post.
