On Thursday night, we went as a Relief Society (well those that could make it) to an exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) to see a Mayan exhibition that the museum was presenting. The best part, we had a woman (wearing white w/red shoulder bag in the picture) in our ward that is currently working as a bilingual docent at the museum, so we had her act as our docent for the night. What a fountain of knowledge. She did a fantastic job with so many pieces in the exhibit, and giving us a very detailed description of the general culture of the Mayan people (yes I realize it is her job, but still.. to know all that about an exhibit that isn't even a permanent fixture at the museum is amazing) as well as their beliefs and whatnot. She is a woman that is so full of life and LOVES art. It really is one of her great passions, and she shows it when she was is giving a tour (she has done it once before at the museum where she is a permanent docent). By the time we had finished the exhibit, she had quite a little following.
I was also impressed that so many women were able to attend, especially with it being on a school night. Kudos for the hubbies for making a point of being available for their wives to go to this really fabulous exhibit. I know.. it is called being a parent, but still- a lot of the men in our ward have crazy schedules so- it isn't always an easy task.
I wish we would have had more time to spend at the museum. Every Thursday night they have free admission. They also have bands playing and food available for those that want to tour the museum and hear a little jazz. The music was so fun and it was really just a great party type of atmosphere. I have been to something similar in LA at one of the museums there, and this is very similar. It was really fun and I am going to make it a point of getting down there more often. I really am tired of coulda, woulda, shoulda being my mantra. I am going to make it a point of DOING!

What a cool RS activity, that sounds like something way out of the norm to do. We have a lady in our ward who is giving a devotional at BYU next month and I think a bunch of us are going to go listen to her and then possibly have her give us a "behind the scenes" tour of the BYU library where she works. I like the idea of doing something different like this.
(Which one in the photo is you?)
I know- I need to add a photo, but I hate photos of myself w/my giant prednisone face. I'm in the back row in the red.
I wish there had been a better attendance. I hope it doesn't dissuade them from doing something similar in the future.
Y'all sounds fun. I would love a behind scenes tour of the library. The whole dewey decimal system is really too confusing!
You look great Lara, you always do. Your hair is so long!
Don't let her fool you, she is the cutest one in the whole family. She is always dressed nice, and really has a great sense of fashion and all. Glad you had a good night, and that is right up your ally.
How was NOLA?
what a great activity.
i love museums but never take the time to go.
i can't wait to hear about jazz fest. lucky!!!
hey went and did a little BR shopping last night and spent way too much money. if you ever hear of freinds and family deals let me know. i am having serous buyers remorse!
That sounds like a great outing and take advantage of it I hear ya on the woulda shoulda coulda. I am in a rut with that these days as well.
ahh- Kristi. Welcome to my life. I was always overspending at BR. I finally had to give it up, because I was always on the negative end of my paycheck.
I'll keep my eyes out for FF passes. It isn't until August and December, but watch for sales (anything bought w/in 14 days can get a price adjustment). Seriously- it isn't worth it to buy anything full price unless you really, really want it and will be depressed if you don't get it. Everything goes on sale w/in 6-8 weeks of hitting the stores. Maybe not huge markdowns, but sometimes at least 20%.
