Weekend Happenings

It has been a crazy week for me. I had a big visit going on at work-- which went remarkably well.. thank heavens! We are making some serious headway in the moving department. We have almost all of our books packed (this is always the most time consuming). The amazing thing.. we have over 20 boxes of books. Ridiculous! I cleaned out my closet (much to the chagrin of those that live in other states) and was completely ruthless. I'm sure I will be wishing for those..... one day, but I'll have to get over it. I have successfully gone through 2 years of Marthas (8 to go). I did enjoy going through the magazines and found that I wasn't keeping a lot of the pages. I also went through my other magazines and basically discarded everything. It was very therapeutic. The best part, you can get page protectors from Sam's club for a fraction of the cost (good thing, I will need a ridiculous number at this rate).

We were able to go to dinner with friends at my favorite mexican restaurant. It was a group of people we knew in NOLA and another couple that unfortunately are moving this week (we will miss you Amy, Paul, and baby James). It was totally entertaining, because Paul asked us what we thought of rebuilding NOLA. Obviously this was met with a surprising number of different comments. I'm extremely loud and at one point had to apologize to the couple sitting at the table next to us. In my defense, it was a loud restaurant and Paul was sitting at the other end of the table. It was interesting to see what everyone thought. What was shocking to me, is that we have never really talked about it. At least I don't recall talking about it with this group of people. None of us are from NOLA, but we all love it there and would be remiss if it wasn't rebuilt- although not everyone agreed on how to go about doing it. Fascinating.

The other exciting thing.. we bought a new couch. It was a crazy decision, but I'm very excited and think we made a good decision. The big problem- we are already filling up our new apartment and we have to be there at least 3 years. Adam thinks he was tricked into even looking for a couch, but he knows better. We also picked something that we will have for a long time (although Adam thinks we will never need to buy a couch again.. just keep thinking that :). I'm really excited. It gets delivered sometime later this week. Thankfully to the new apartment. We are going to move the current (red stained) couch into the playroom area and find a nice little throw to go over it (thanks for all the suggestions- unfortunately nothing worked and now because of the efforts.. it strangely looks worse).

I've been feeling quite blah this past week. It drives me insane and I hate it. I think partly I'm sleep deprived, but also just crazy with all the things I need to get done in the next couple of days. I have also noticed that I haven't picked up a book for weeks which really bothers me. I miss the escapism of it all and getting out of my own problems. I did watch Pride and Prejudice again last night, after all the talk on Jill's blog. I really do think I could watch it everyday. It makes me sad I was so against it for so long. (I have a girlfriend that is frequently rereading it and I always teased her that everytime I came to pick up Lulu she was reading it. Now I totally understand why.) I feel a bit better, but I think after this weekend the light at the end of the tunnel will be all the more attainable. Here is hoping for a successful move.

You know, I think that stress is so hard on us. I always feel down when I have a lot of stress in my life.

I am cracking up about you letting Adam go on thinking that you will never have to buy another couch... and glad that you got a new one and can relegate the red-stained one to the playroom. Hey, I'm glad you have a playroom!

We have a ton of books, too. Too many to fit in our bookshelves. I just think that means we need more bookshelves. I hope you get to start reading again soon! What book will it be? oh the possibilities...

I still need to finish Fahrenheit 451 and read my book club book, but I'm really thinking it is either Pride and Prejudice or the Alchemist. I've read the Alchemist and will be reading it for book club in a couple of months, but it is one of those- light bulb books for me and I need something to ground me right now. I'm frittering my life away with details and need to step back- I always feel like this book does it for me.

Oh Happy Day a new couch! I long for one of those days. I also love that you won't be getting one in a VERY long time. Hey maybe now Lulu has a place to lay down and read herself!

I thought you guys only had 2 years left for some reason. Is G.S. really 7 years? Painful. Is he going to specialize and tack on another 3? Just wondering. I think that 6 is plenty enough. But the guys have to do what they love right?

Hooray, for dinner with friends! It doesn't happen near often enough. Also, congrats on the couch, a good couch goes a long way (until it is out of style and you need a new one--don't tell Adam).

Jenny- we thought it was 5 but Adam added two years with research so we are looking at a total of 7 with. He has at least a one year commitment as a pseudo faculty member- so we have at least 4 years.

Nothing makes me happier than new furniture--really. It gives you just a little lift. Yea for you! Last couch-Ha!

I'm with you on the books, there are two stacked walls of boxes filled with books sitting in our garage right now. But they are like old friends and we just can't part with them! As for reading time, life will return to normal soon. You just gotta push through the move and then you'll have book time again!

you have to post a picture of the couch.

I am sorry you are still feeling yucky, I don't think stress agrees with your body, you aren't the stress freak in the family, unless you hide it well.

Glad you got a break.

I commented earlier today but it didn't take--argh blogger.

How delightful to get a new couch (perhaps the slurpee incident was not an accident, hmmmm). Whatever it takes eh?

I'm glad the packing is going well, that's a big job, but oh so satisfying when you're sorting well.
