Lunch with a Friend
On Friday I had the chance to go to lunch with a girlfriend from church. We had such a great time. The thing is, it isn't someone that I would necessarily have becomes friends with if not for visiting teaching. We are kind of at different points in our lives and wouldn't have necessarily been presented an opportunity to get to know one another. For this I am so thankful for the divine intervention that is used when assigning visiting teaching. I know that we were both placed together for a reason. I was thinking about Amy M's post a couple of weeks back about getting together with couples that were outside of her age group. It seems obvious, but I think there are many times that we stick with what we know.. ie person has the same age kids, spouses work in the same field, age, etc.., but we miss out on getting to know the woman that we might not immediately have an association with, but that can contribute to our lives. Since Friday I have been thinking about this and want to try and make more of an effort. We will see how it goes.

YES! It's like my new VT companion said: "I love when the Lord picks my friends!" I can't tell you how many times I have had this experience. Now I just know that I can be friends with any of the women in my ward, given the opportunity.
I have always been lucky to Vt the older women in the ward, or them me. My greatest relationships are with those who are not in the same phase of life as me. I feel like they have great advice to guide me since they have already been through it. And when I complain they can laugh and understand since they don't have the same stress of little ones at home. I miss my Oregon visiting teachers, one still will call and check on me. I am glad you were able to have a great lunch
We too talk of this but never act upon it. I guess we just get into a comfort zone and never leave. Its good that you have done this.
That's wonderful when you make an unlikely friend. That's one of my favorite things about visiting teaching. Even though I haven't gone to lunch with the women I've met, some of my favorite people are older women from church that I visit teach. I often think how wonderful it is that I get to visit them in their home and get to know them like that.
