I'm finally HOME

A 4 week vacation has always sounded VERY appealing, but in all actuality it was rather exhausting. I guess I should try it again without being 7 months pregnant. I had a great time in Salt Lake and I'm always reminded why I want to move back permanently.

The first week I spent helping my girlfriend plan a 40th Birthday Party for her husband. We decorated the backyard (you can't see them in the picture, but we hung Christmas lights and Chinese lanterns), made delicious desserts, and tried to keep it a surprise for an entire week (which we did- quite shocking).

The second week I took care of my girlfriend's 4 kids while she was in Africa (Ethiopia) participating in a humanitarian mission. It was a VERY long week, but it was great fun to watch some of my favorite kiddos. The best part- I took the herd to the Natural History Museum to see the Totally Frogs exhibit (which is actually the exhibit from the NOLA aquarium). When I went to pay the attendant she asked me the ages of the kids I told her I had a 9 year old, 4 year old, 3 year old, 2 year old, and 1 year old (actually 8 months, but close enough). The woman looked at my stomach and I commented that yeah I was pregnant. I could see from her face that she was processing all these kids and I quickly corrected her that only one of them actually belonged to me. She said "well this is Utah". It was hysterical.

The third week I saw this

This is my girlfriend I was helping for the past 3 weeks.

I met my girlfriend and her sister-in-law in Rome for a 10 day vacation. We had a wonderful time and I enjoyed spending some quality time sans kiddos with her.

Oh yeah- and we drove on the sidewalk in Florence. We actually had to go off a CURB to get back on the road and pedestrians had to get out of the way. It was sooooo embarrassing. The worst part of the trip- the airline lost my luggage. We got in on Saturday and I finally got my bag the following Friday. Luckily I packed 2 days worth of clothing in my carry on which completely saved me. I also had a ton of insuarnce so I could do some shopping while I was there. The downside- shopping for clothing in Europe when the exchange rate is RIDICULOUS and finding things for my expanding belly.

The 4th week I was back in Salt Lake sleeping. I was also taking care of my 2 nieces and hephew while their parents were in Ghana. It was a last minute thing for my sister-in-law and it was great spending some time with them.

All in all it was a great trip and I'll post more about Italy this week.

So sad we missed seeing you while you were in UT. You look adorable, but I want to see a profile shot! It sounds like quite the busy 4 weeks, no wonder you were exhausted! I can't wait to see more about Rome.

That's our Lara - traveling the world with nothing stopping her! I admire your spontaneity and endurance! How fun to get one last trip in before the baby. You look darling!

You were certainly gone a long time. It is fun to see your photos of many of the same sights that I just saw. Wasn't Italy amazing? The food was to die for.

It was great to see a photo of Chris and shannon. It has been a long time since I've seen her. It's great you were able to help them out. Lots of work for a pregnant lady though.

It's too bad we were unable to make something work out during your visit. Perhaps next time. I loved our last visit.

It's just so unreal to see how cute and tiny you are at 7 months pregnant! How would that be? I'll never know.

You packed so much into those 4 weeks, I just can't believe it. I think you get the "best friend in the world" award for flying in to watch your friend's kids for a week, that was really nice, especially while you're pregnant!

I can't wait to read more about your trip to Rome.

Oh, Lara, you're taking me back. You've inspired me to start sorting my Italy pictures so I can post, asap! You must be Queen Energatic, though. All that and 7 months pregnant. Though, the 10 day trip to Italy without child (or husband for that matter) would be the thing that could help me push through. I'll bet it's nice to be home, hopefully relaxing, and getting ready for your baby.
