Pinewood Derby

Although I was in the hospital giving birth to my beautiful baby, I wanted to post pictures of the big Pinewood Derby. Thankfully I have several amazing friends that pitched in and helped pull the big event off. My girlfriend from another ward also came to help get everything taken care of (she and her husband unexpectedly ended up taking care of my Lulu while we were at the hospital delivering Teddy).

We had a great turn out and lots of ingenuity when it came to design and decorations. I LOVE the clown car, but the tractor is also hysterical. I thought a concession stand sounded like the perfect thing for a derby. We did popcorn, nachos, cookies, candy, water, and capri suns. We gave each person tickets and they bought whatever they wanted. I wanted to control waste (like 2 sips taken out of a giant water bottle and another one taken), especially since I knew everyone would be consumed with watching the races and it seemed to do the trick.

It was a ton of work, but I'm just glad everything worked out in the end.

you are amazing. That looks like so much fun. You just know Teddy had to be the center of attention

Seriously? You're posting about the Pinewood Derby now? You are something else, sister. It looks like a great event, and I'm partial to the potato car myself.

Wow!What an event! People in your ward are very serious about their derby racing. The Concessions stand was a fabulous idea!

What a fun idea for a ward activity, and what a crazy reason for not being there for it!

Hi Lara. You don't know me, but Jill alerted me to your blog to check out your Ward Derby racing activity. I was just put in as Activities Chair and was asking for good ideas...so she pointed me in your direction. This activity looks SO great. I was planning on doing something like this in a few months, but have gotten a few new ideas for this activity just by looking at your blog. If you have any other ideas or tips you would like to pass along to me, that would be great. You can email me at wannaseeannasblog@gmail.com. Given that you just had a baby like 2 seconds ago...take your time on emailing me. Thanks! :)
