The other day I was at one of her properties and saw this:

Yep- you are seeing correctly- If you look closely you can see the closet still has clothes.
This house is a couple of doors down from her property and was being demolished so they could build basically a zero lot line house. Obviously in the middle of demolishing this $1.2 million dollar house someone realized the previous owners had some unfinished packing they needed to do.
This is basically what is happening all over our city and especially this ridiculously priced area of town. We have all these fantastic old homes, but everyone wants bigger and better so they buy the houses for just above lot value and bulldoze to build a huge house. It is similar to what is happening in the Sugar House area and 15th & 15th in Salt Lake. It isn't that I'm against it, because quite frankly a lot of these older homes need so much work it is more cost effective to just start over, but now instead of having these quaint little homes that look similar, but not exactly the same, you are getting cookie cutter homes with only a few varying things to differentiate them from one another. I like driving through a neighborhood and looking at all the different homes. It is one reason I love the two areas I mentioned in Salt Lake.
I wish I could walk up to the door and promise the couple that raised their family in one of those little houses that I would keep the baby because quite frankly 2000 sq feet is a lot of space and we don't need bigger and not bulldoze it the second I got the chance. Unfortunately this would never happen because 1. I don't want to pay $800K for a 1200 sq foot house that is in need of some major work and 2. No one cares if their kids can come back to the house they were raised in.
Sorry- I didn't mean for this to be a commentary on the housing market-- I just thought the picture was hysterical.

That is SO weird!! I guess they didn't care about them anymore or what? What I wouldn't give to be able to go back to one of the many houses I grew up in...
Maybe they got too overwhelmed with packing and just thought, "ah what the hey?" and left it!
I bet everyone who has moved has left something behind... admit it. Can't say that I've left a closet full of stuff but we did leave a box of bathroom stuff and my favorite shelf!!!
That picture is very funny. This subject is close to my heart because I grew up just a little north of 15th and 15th. I love the beautiful old homes in my neighborhood. Fortunately not too many of them have been bulldozed, but a few have, and it is so sad. I love the classic old Tudors and Colonials.
People need to realize that they don't need 2,000 square feet for two kids, and they don't need a seven passenger SUV either. I know many people with four or more kids in under 1500 square feet-- but who am I kidding, they could have a very large home for what they pay for their 1500 sq ft!
What is it like to have so much money that you don't even bother to move your clothes. They're so last season anyway.
Living in a 1500sq house with 4 kids, I would have taken that house for anything. That photo is pretty funny. I had no idea you were working. Very cool that you found something that would work with your kiddos!
Hi Lara! What a riot! What's up with not taking your clothes? I love clothes - I would never leave them like that, or if I did, I'd be picking through the rubble to get them back! Who am I kidding, I'd probably rummaging through the rubble to check these out. Shameful.
Cookie cutter houses are a pet peeve of mine. Where's the diversity and creativity?! Someday I want to design our own Virginia/Louisiana home, taking the best of what I love about homes in these parts of the country. I don't want mine looking just like my neighbors, even if my color scheme is a little different. Utah is replete with cookie cutter homes - must do something about that! :)
Teddy's blessing sounds like it was wonderful (darling boy!), and you went to Lion King?! Terrific! I'm glad it worked out so that your mom could go too.
Good luck to you guys with the peds residency. I know it means extra years (grrr ...), but you have direction and a goal and a dream, all things I find essential to a happy life. My wish for you is that Adam gets in to a great program in a great location.

Funny pic aside (and it IS funny), that sounds like a terrific job you have. I have always been all about jobs where my kids can come along. I always say that one of my biggest blessings in life is that my boss gets it that I am mom 1st, social worker 2nd!
