Two fantastic Movies

A couple of weeks ago I played hooky from work. I usually work for my real estate agent on Mondays (I work as her administrative assistant- it isn't as glamorous and you would think), but she has been out of town and her kids were needy so she asked me not to come. WOOHOO. I didn't find out until too late to let Ms. Greece know so I took the chance to go and see a couple of movies. I know- a little extravagant, but so worth it. The first Monday it was just little old me, so I went to see Mamma Mia. LOVED IT. Except, I don't love the singing Pierce Brosnan. I've never seen the play, so the only information I had was from the previews. I'm sure if you have seen it, you have the same feelings, but I am DYING to go to Greece. It was gorgeous. A girlfriend of mine was uncertain if she wanted to see the movie, because of its less than stellar view of morality, but I thought they did a great job wrapping it up without glorifying anything. Really- if you haven't seen it.. you should.

I got out just in time to hop in my car and drive to one of our indie theatres to see The Visitor. If you have a chance to see this little delight you won't be disappointed. It was fantastic. I would argue it is a bit political (like Wall-E), but only a little in your face . It is about a man that owns an apartment in NYC (although he lives in Connecticut) and comes down to give a lecture and finds that someone is living in his apartment. It turns out to be a couple (the woman is from Senegal and the man is from Syria) that was duped into renting what they thought was a furnished apartment. The story is about their unlikely friendship. I will forewarn that it is a bit heartbreaking. I was really enjoying it, until 38 minutes before the movie ended the power went out. They weren't going to be able to get it fixed until after 5 pm so I asked one of the workers how it ended. She gave me a brief synopsis and I went home. I actually got online and read the ending, which turned out to be a good thing, because I learned quickly how BRIEF her synopsis was. I probably should have just gone and seen it again (they gave us all free passes), but if there is one thing to know about me- I'm impatient. I'm so impatient that I read the end of the book (ala Harry in When Harry Met Sally), because I cannot wait to find out how it ends. Therefore it is a good thing I found out the ending. Again, if you haven't seen it I would HIGHLY recommend it (in SLC you can probably see it at the Broadway).

I loved loved loved Mama Mia, and I have to agree with you that I feel that they did a great job. Pierce Brosnin looked like he was having teeth pulled. Really awkard watching him. I think it helped too that I was watching the movie with a crowd that was over 50 but me and my friend, and they brought some great funny things.

The other movie sounds wonderful. I have to find a theatre here that plays foreign films.

I haven't seen either of these. I have heard the same thing about the singing Pierce Brosnan, too funny. The Visitor definitely sounds like one I would love, thanks for the recommendation.

Sounds like a wonderfully indulgent day! Where can I order one?

I know Pierce can't sing very well but it really didn't take away from the movie, anyway to me it didn't. So, you know you're in a small town when it is the first day that Mamma Mia is playing and you're the only one in the theatre! True, I got to watch this fabulous movie by myself (Mark and the boys saw "Star Wars:clone"). If I had been sure that no one was in the projector room I would have gotten up and danced in the isles.... really, I would have... I loved it and definitely would recommend it.

I went and watched Mamma Mia on a whim this last week and really enjoyed it. Totally agree about Pierce Brosnan- it was kinda painful. I want to see it again with friends for sure.

I have seen a preview for the Visitor and was intrigued. Good to know it would be worth a watch!

I saw Mama Mia off and of broadway and it was great as a movie too. I think, if I remember right you do aet a sense of who her father is in the play, but they decide to share him, kind of like thay have here. The Englishman isn't gay, I don't think, and I am foggy on whether or not mom ends up married. I need to look it up.

Hovever- they all sang wall- that Kristine Lahti! My word! To look like that! I love it and I want This cast has my favorite sound track!

I saw a trailer for the Visitor. It hink it will be a great movie too.
