Out with the Old and In With the New

I'm in the process of de-cluttering my house. I have finally reached the point that I cannot take it. So far I have:

RECYCLED 10 years worth of Martha and other miscellaneous mags.

DISCARDED classwork from Masters degree. When am I going to use it?

DONATED
baby stuff (baby bjorn, sling, car seat).

REASSIGNED
Lulu's "too small" clothing to Ms. Greece's daughter Emily

GIFTED
Teddy's 3-6 month clothing

The last one made me a little sad. The little guy that I gave the clothing to was wearing this outfit yesterday:

I'll admit it. I cried when I was driving home. I'm so happy it is getting some use, but I'm still a little shell shocked that the baby stage of my life is over. I think this is why I was so anxious to get it all out of my house. I just couldn't look at it anymore.

**Isn't it funny when you look at pictures of your babies and realize they were not nearly as cute as you thought they were. Oh I still think he was cute, but he is adorable now.

LOVE your labels here.

I am going through a similar process here. I kept a few baby outfits, and everything has gone. In fact, I came home today to find a thank you note from a woman that I have given a ton of my boys' clothes to. It is so worth it when I know that someone else is benefiting so much!

Most things I don't miss at all after I give them away. And I sure do like having a little extra space.

I just did this as well. It is sad to think that how quick that went by. However, I am enjoying the stage we are moving into, crazy and all.

Yeah for Decluttering, doesn't it just feel good. I love to declutter, my poor kids never get to keep anything. I am working on helping them with the hording gene.

I went through this when Kaylee turned one. I just knew I had too and was thinking that saying bye to the baby stage when I still had a baby would be easier...it is hard!

And I SO know what you mean about looking at older pictures and thinking that they weren't quite as cute as you thought they were- ha!

There is something in the air. It may have something to do with the fresh Texas autumn. I've just re-colored my home and am gutting all the crevices for a garage sale with a friend next week. The maxim, "use it up wear it out make it do or do without" does not work for me. Instead I use, "what is the worst thing that could possibly happen if I throw this away?"

I'm finding that I'm able to get rid of things after a certain amount of time has passed. I'm not sure how much time I mean, but I've held onto many years of Martha Stewart Living Magazines, College stuff, Christmas cards and much more, but last month when I cleaned the garage (AGAIN!) I had no problem taking a ton of that stuff to be recycled. I was surprised that I didn't want to hang onto it anymore and was relieved as well.
