It's COLD here. (Can you tell with my coat and scarf?) Although I think the issue has more to do with the fact that our heat isn't working. We haven' been to concerned, because the temperature has been in the mid 60's- 70's, so we haven't needed it. The ironic thing: the landlady sent someone to check our heater before we switched from the air conditioner to the heater. (She is a rather proactive landlady, which we LOVE.) It seemed to be working fine at the beginning of November.
We discovered it a coupe of weeks ago. I came home and found poor Ms. Greece with her coat on and Teddy still in his pjs. (She left him in them to keep him warm.) I immediately asked her if she was cold and went to turn on the heat. NOTHING. I tried adjusting the settings, turning it on and off, but nothing happened. BLAST.
It actually reminds me of when we used to live in NOLA. The first year we lived in a studio that had an old heater. We used it VERY sparingly. I would go to a friend's apartment that lived in the same building to get warm.
The last year we lived in NOLA we were back in a studio, but over the course of 4 years had collected additional furniture. Because of the limited space we put our tv table over the heater. We rarely used it, so what was the harm? We discovered upon our return from Utah, that NOLA was experiencing a ridiculous drop in temperature. Much to our chagrin, we found all of the stores were sold out of space heaters. We finally gave in and slept at a friend's house for a couple of days.
Obviously we are gluten for punishment. Actually, the truth is that I don't want to call. Our landlady has been having some health issues and I'm worried if we bug her too much she will throw up her hands and sell the place. We love it here and I would be terribly upset if we had to find another place to live. But, I'll be calling the landlady tomorrow! This is ridiculous.

It's funny to think of you hesitating to call your landlady for fear she'll sell the place! You need heat, so hopefully you'll make the call and then she'll make a call to Sears or some repair place and you'll be toasty warm again. I can't stand being cold inside the house!
Oh, this brings back memories of last Christmas! We woke up on the Sunday before Christmas to a very chilly house and discovered our furnace had died. No one was open until the day after Christmas. We borrowed some space heaters and bundled up, but it was still a very cold Christmas.
Here's to having heat again very soon!
Too bad the fireplace doesn't work. Maybe she would fix that. She isn't going to sell in this economy. You might want to look into a space heater just for future and for the extra cold days.
FYI: We have two space heaters.
