Everyone has been recommending really great adult books, but I wanted to recommend some great childrens books that Lulu and I love. The first is I Know A Rhino by Charles Fuge. We love this book. When you ask Lulu what a giraffe says, she actually quotes the book "laughs, laughs, taking a bath" (the quote is ..I know a Giraffe and we Laugh and we Laugh- blowing hundreds of bubbles while we take a bath). It really is a great book.
The other book is The Jolly Postman by Allen Ahlberg. It is probably a little old for her, but she loves to take the letters in and out of the envelopes included in the book. I personally hope it will instill in her the joy you have when you can hold a letter in your hands. I know- strange to think about, but it is why I love this book. I love receiving mail. There is nothing like it.

i love receiving snail mail, too! even though e-mail and phone calls suffice for awhile, the thoughtfulness and intimacy of a hand-written letter is hard to deny. to emphasize this point, i've just purchased lots of cute note cards to send out to friends and family, so they can enjoy receiving mail. now, let's see if i actually buy stamps...
thanks for the recommendations I will give them a try. My kids love to ready books, well at least two of them.
my mil made a little file book for Brynn with address labels with her name, a pen, and some great stationary that folds into an envelope. She keeps telling me how the fine art of letter writing is being replaced, I absolutely agree. Oh, and the Rhino is our favorite, thanks to lulu. I will have to get the other.
