Stephen Colbert
Let me preface this with.. I hope I don't offend anyone with this post, but.. Can I just say.. I love Stephen Colbert. He is completely irreverant and no one is safe, but he is hysterical. He was the guest speaker at the Correspondents Dinner this weekend and he didn't disappoint. This is the jist, Stephen Colbert, but you can read the full transcript if you click on the link "his attacks" under the 2006 White House Correspondents section. I have to say my favorite comment is (speaking to the press) "But the rest of you, what are you thinking, reporting on NSA wiretapping or secret prisons in eastern Europe? Those things are secret for a very important reason: they're super-depressing. And if that's your goal, well, misery accomplished. Over the last five years you people were so good -- over tax cuts, WMD intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know, and you had the courtesy not to try to find out. Those were good times, as far as we knew...." He totally went a little crazy, but it is just how he is. Very similar to Jon Stewart, but a I think with a little more edge. A couple of weeks ago he did a HILARIOUS rift on men not crying publicly, but breaking down when he heard Katie Couric was leaving the Today show and Meredith whats her name was coming on board. He is also in some bizarre argument about the word "truthiness", which he claims he made up and was actually named theAmerican Dialect Society's selection as the Word of the Year, and the press for not giving him credit. What a freak! I know- waaay too much time on my hands. His show "The Colbert Report" is on Comedy Central after The Daily Show-- if you like Jon Stewart, you should give it a chance.

have not heard of him! but i always love learning new things so i don't make a total fool of myself when i actually do get dressed and go out in public!
thanks for educating me!
remind me why you never became an attorney?
I wish I enjoyed politics as much as you.
LKWA. just watched the segment on the internet. i cannot believe i missed that. my fave, points about how he + GW are similar - colbert: i believe in america. meaning that, i believe that this is america, which stretches from the atlantic to the pacific, with 50 states. one of the more basic of all basics. but wait, colbert's belief in a government that governs less as more effective, for example in iraq!!! here's the link to the internet version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcIRXur61II&watch2
tee hee! I love Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart both. We record their shows every night. I was dying when my husband read me something from the New York Times about truthiness being named the word of the year, because we thought Stephen Colbert had invented it on his show!
btw, I'm a friend of Kristi's and followed her link to you...
Michelle- I've actually been checking out your blog as well. Welcome to my insanity. Glad to hear there is another Colbert groupie out there.
I just read the transcript of his whole speech. OUCH! Can you say scathing! I love him, I love Jon Stewart! I can't believe they asked him to do the speech, they had to know he would be mean!
