Friday night Adam and I were able to head to a movie. We were watching the previews and a preview for the new Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" came on. After the preview was over, this guy sitting behind us made some ridiculous comment. He said "there are two kinds of people in this world- the kind that believe in God and the kind that believe in global warming." I about jumped over my chair to throttle him, because I couldn't believe that someone was still dense enough to believe that global warming is not real. My take was that he was saying that people need to realize that it isn't global warming, but God that is responsible for the changes in the climate.. similar to the belief that the hurricane hit New Orleans to rid the city of all the unrighteous people-- yeah not sure about that one. ( I know this sounds harsh, but.. I guess I just don't know what else it is going to take to convince people that we really-- really need to start doing things to reduce our impact. I also realize I'm being a little self righteous here.) At least that was my take on what he said. However Adam thought he meant that there were two kinds of people each with a belief in something that you can't prove. Since we do live in the bible belt, I lean more to my idea, but.. that is also because it is my idea. I realize that I don't do nearly enough to help offset my impact on the environment, but I'm thankful that people are starting to think on a more global level. If you are interested in learning more, the EPA has a great Kids Website explaining the whole thing. I like the kids website because I think it is a really good source for a very concise explanation of what is happening and how we can help.
I guess I'm just kind of crazy about the issue. I'm also really excited about seeing this movie and hope it lives up to all the hype. I hope it is available where you live and you will give it a shot. If it is bad, don't blame me.. hee-hee.

Lara,
Did you see Al Gore open SNL? I can't remember if it was this weekends or last, because I watched it on TiVo, but it was hilarious.
I just barely watched SNL while I ate lunch today and thought Al Gore was pretty funny. I don't know much about environmental issues, but I'm a big recycling person if that's any help.
Tasha- love the picture. Where can I find one of those? I saw the recent SNL when he was on weekend update. I love him. He really is a goofy guy.
Jill- absolutely- recycling is a must. The other thing- unplug things you aren't using- like your hair dryer. That also saves energy=saving the environment :).
Kristi showed me this site, its shesheme.com I just copied one of their drawings from one of their stationary sets. Its a great site, and most of their "girls" are brown haired, so you will totally find something.
We had to FIGHT with waste mgt to bring us recycle bins. Seriously, I had to call 4 times. Can you believe that? And since Rosie lives in the borough (I live in the township) hers has to be all broken down and wrapped in twine, etc or they won't take it, but mine doesn't, and the both go to the same place. Its so odd. Why make it so hard for people to recycle. I am so irked that we don't have more feul efficient cars, but don't get me started on that one!
