Tour of Krispy Kreme

Lulu and her donut

I decided to crash Kaycee's playgroup tour of Krispy Kreme last week. The kids weren't quite as fascinated as the adults, a great time was had by all. The fact that they were each given two free donuts probably helped matters. They no longer allow you to go in the back, due to OSHA regulations (I actually thought twice about wearing flip flops to the little event), but they brought out a small tray showing each step in the process. They also showed us how they fill the donuts. The most fascinating thing- the donut actually comes with a donut, so they have to make donut holes separately. Our guide said it is actually hard to make the donut holes. Go figure. They only make glazed donuts from like 6am-10am and donuts in general until 2pm. After that, they have to get everything ready for the following day. (I might be off on the specifics, but you get the general idea). He said they could make 1000 donuts in an hour if they needed to.

It was really a fun little field trip, and I enjoyed playing hooky for a little time with Lulu.

I love Krispy Kreme donut tours. They are so great with kids and really nice. I bet she enjoyed that little sugar high.

I love Krispy Kremes too (who doesn't?), so that would be one field trip I actually wouldn't mind going on.

Kind of like the Hershey Factory Tour, eh? Which, by the way is newly renovated for 2006. Just opened. Another reason to come to PA next fall or spring.

Oh, so KK can make 1,000 an hour, big whoop, I can probably EAT 1,000 in an hour. Try me!
