Goodbye Friend

Dear Friend,
We have been friends for so many years. You saw me through what I can only describe as the "horrors of high school", 7:45 am classes at the U, working until 2:00 am at Delta, moving away to NOLA, graduate school, moving to Texas, and working at that crazy HIV clinic.

Yes, in that time there was a 2 year break, but it was a sad and lonely time and I was happy to come back to my friend. However, in the past couple years I have learned that, really you aren't the best for me. My teeth have taken a beating, water has become a foreign liquid to me, and I have been mocked incessantly for my caffeine intake and my always constant fashion accessory of a can. Now, in an effort to help reduce my ridiculously elevated blood pressure I must say good bye. According to my husband you are not helping and if I ever want to get off this crazy blood pressure medication and return to a normal of 110/78 I must make some changes. I realize that this isn't solving the long term issue, because really- does anyone think my blood pressure is elevated because of you, but if I ever hope to wear any of my shoes again I must make ever attempt. I realize this is drastic, but drastic measures...

I promise that if I go to Chuy's, the Pie, Hires Big H, or Emigration Market I will visit you again, because quite frankly you are at your best those places, but the daily consumption must come to an end.

Farewell

Oh goodbye to your sweet friend, I feel your pain. I actually was lying in bed this morning thinking it has been over 2 years since my last sip of that sweet nectar, wow.

Oh, bummer. You're still on meds for high blood pressure? I'm surprised it's still hanging around... keep us posted, hopefully there won't be too many withdrawal pains!

What a sad day. Sad day indeed.

1. I did not know that you were still on meds. Hoping that your body can adjust soon.

2. Welcome to my life. This is why I refuse to buy it and have it in my home. However I found that I drink it at least once a day.

3. You are right, those are the best places, hey I want to eat at Chuys when I come.

Wow! Wish John would take after your lead....

Oh, I feel like we need to play taps or something.

So sad, but I am sure your feet will thank you for it, as will your heart!

Heidi,

I've known a lot of people who drink a lot of Diet Coke, but I've never met anyone who drinks as much as John does. I think that if he ever took Lara's lead, he might need professional help.

I've never really thought I was hooked and I only partake of it, while at 'eating out' BUT that has come too often lately. I know that it produces quite a bit of fibrosis what ever it is called in the breasts and the Dctrs recommend no more than 3 cans a week....so I am and have been thinking of cutting back...good for you...there is only good that will come from it

Oh, Lara, I feel your pain. I haven't had a sip of Diet Coke since the end of February. Though the cravings have begun to subside somewhat (finally!) I still really miss it. Good luck. I hope you get off the blood pressure medicine and that all your shoes fit you once more!

A truly sad day. I too love the "liquid darkness."

Is the Emigration Market you mentioned the one on 17th East and 13th South is Salt Lake City?

I am afraid one day I will be posting the very same thing. I have almost gotten to depend on it. It gives me an excuse to get out of my house for an outing--sad.

You are most definitely right Chuy's has the best DC out there. I secretly think that is why we frequent that place so much. Good luck and I hope this helps your blood pressure--so scary. Teddy is darling and I am so extremely jealous of your camera!!

Let it out Lara, let it out. It IS a sad day! But you are strong, and you can overcome! You can be a beacon of light for me and maybe I can find the strength to follow!

Lara! I have been out of the loop so long and just look what I've missed! CONGRATS on your beautiful new baby! What a handsome little chap! So happy for you. Wow - sounds like an adventure getting him here. I hope things are going well at this wonderful/crazy time.

And my condolences to you on the loss of your "friend." Sigh.

So Should I get rid of the Diet Coke we stocked up on for your visit? We thought you'd be so impressed Actually we didn't buy it, it was just left here after a fellows get together. I'll get rid of it and get you some Orangina. Ruth
