Champions on Ice

We had a service auction a couple of months ago in RS. One of the things up for auction was 6 tickets to see John Hancock's Champions on Ice at the AA Center. The perk- the tickets were in a box. The woman donating the tickets actually dontated them in 2 blocks of 6 tickets each. A group of us got together and decided to bid on the tickets with our points and we won. We decided to make a day of it and go to lunch before we headed out to the show.

I should probably preface this with- I had seen Smuckers on Ice 2 years previously because of the fabulous Hunt family. They were always getting crazy tickets to see different things throughout the city, because of his job. We had been recipents of these tickets (3 rows behind the owner of the Texas Rangers at a game) before, so when he came to dinner and told us he had 6 box seats to see the show we decided to go. We had a great time and the men totally enjoyed it. So- when the tickets were put up for auction, I raved about how fun it was and thought a group of girls would be a blast.

Fast forward to Saturday, July 8th. The group of us got together for a "Girls Day Out". We went to lunch before the show and then drove down to the AA Center. The seats were totally cool and my girlfriend Carrie decided that "this was the life she was meant to have!" So- the show starts and everyone comes out and does this little solo thing and then a group skate was in order. The show is actually pretty amazing, because it has all of the current olympic champions (including the diva Michelle Kwan- I say diva, because the girl was barely in it) and some other cool performers. So- my point.. we aren't talking some mediocre skaters- these people rocked! After the little group thing- everyone came out and did their own separate routine. All in all- I enjoyed the routines that were not too serious and the ones the skaters had fun. I would like to comment on the crazy outfits and some of the questionable routines that were performed. This little guy (see above photo) was a little too much for me. He did this thing to a song that I can't think of right now, that ended abruptly.. talking, talking and suddenly you hear the music for "
Last Dance".. you know the one. Well- he takes his shirt off and proceeds to take his belt off as well. It was like what I imagine a strip show to be (I've never seen one, but.. I think my assumption is correct). All I could think of was the movie "Mr. Mom" where his little group of women take him to a strip club and when he gets home he asks the babysitter (that happened to be one of the women from his little group) if she offered to babysit, because she knew where they were taking him and she starts giggling uncontrollably. The whole thing was totally entertaining and in the end he pulled off his tear away pants to reveal his glittery ones instead. I was laughing soo hard and my girlfriend Kathryn was just about dying. The picture depicts his final outfit.

Now- these guys were fabulous. I literally could have watched them the entire night. They were basically acrobats doing things on the ice (although they are ice skaters as well). It was AMAZING. The little guy kept climbing all of over the big guy and doing head stands, hand stands and other cool things. It was really impressive.

It was really a great time and after 2 hours and 15 minutes- we were very pleased with our auction win. I'm hoping for another service auction and tickets for next years show.

What a blast, Lara, now that's what I call a girl's night out. Wish I could have joined you.

That is so fun! At first I was thinking you were going to say that you and Adam went, I think he would rather poke his eyes out!

That does sound pretty fun. I keep trying to get our ward to do a service auction -- I don't know why they are resisting so hard!

That's sounds like a hilarious and unique day out with the girls. I love your Mr. Mom comparison, that's one of my favorite movies. Randy, Lori and I are always quoting from it. "You gave a baby chile?" Anyway, stripper skaters have come a long way. Ha.

I always giggle at males trying to be sexy/sultry...it just seems to come off so silly. I would die of laughter at a male strip show. I think men are much more attractive fully clothed. How fun for you and the girls to get to go out!

You have some serious lucky connections. Box seats are the best!

what a creepy strip show!! hahaha.

Your RS auction sounded MUCH better than ours... "one night of baby sitting for Temple night", "baked loaves of bread", "your lunch of choice", "floral arrangment", etc

Just to let you know, I'm not bitter about the fact that you CHEATED to win the bid for Champions on Ice. I had it in the bag with my very own legally earned points. Then again, I didn't know I'd be about 1700 miles away when the even occured, so it worked out in the end.
